This initiative falls into the mandate of the WTO Training Institute to provide the developing countries with enhanced negotiation skills development and training opportunities. The main objective of this course is to give the participants basic factual and analytical tools to handle negotiation processes, in particular within the context of the ongoing WTO talks held in the context of the 揇oha Development Agenda? Leading scholars actively participated to this activity. In order for the participants to put into practice the knowledge acquired during the first week, the second week was entirely devoted to a negotiation simulation. This course constitutes a contribution to an enhanced cooperation between the WTO Training Institute and the academic community.
The data collected during the simulation exercise, will serve as a useful basis for further research activities in the area of negotiation.
This
training course completed the programme of activities of the WTO
Training Institute for 2002. Two Trade Policy Courses with fifty-eight
officials of developing countries and economies in transition as well
as a three-week introduction course for representatives of least
developed countries also came to an end at the beginning of December.
