Mr. Lamy said that the 2008 reviews would be 搈ore focused, technical and results-oriented, with the aim of assisting in advancing ?and then monitoring ?the implementation of concrete national and especially sub-regional plans.

He stressed that 揺mpowering developing countries is what this initiative is all about? He pointed to 搗ery encouraging signs that countries are increasingly motivated to take a lead?

The Director-General underlined the importance of finding ways to measure the impact of Aid for Trade. He called for more cooperation with the OECD and the World Bank in developing a basket of performance indicators to help assess trade capacity in developing countries.

At the meeting, the European Union, China, the United States, Norway, Japan, Benin, Canada and Egypt expressed support for the proposed roadmap.

The Director-General thanked members for giving the green light to the 2008 roadmap. He also thanked China for announcing at the meeting a new $200,000 contribution to Aid for Trade, noting this will help build further South-South cooperation in this field.
