On Monday 6 July 2009, on the margins of the Second Global Review on Aid for Trade, the WTO's Institute for Training and Technical Cooperation (ITTC) organized the third Open Day on WTO Technical Assistance and Training Activities. Eight partner organizations joined the WTO for this event (the African Development Bank, the Agency for International Trade Information and Cooperation, the Asian Development Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank, the International Trade Centre, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization and the Organisation internationale de la francophonie. The Standards and Trade Development Facility also participated.
Visitors
attending the Open Day had the opportunity to meet and discuss with the
various WTO contact persons WTO's trade-related technical assistance (TRTA)
and training programmes and activities, Documentation and practical demos
were presented on these programmes and activities, such as field-based
activities in the regions, Regional Trade Policy Courses (RTPCs),
Geneva-based Courses, the E-Learning Programme, the Academic Programme, and
the Internship Programme. The other organizations who took part also
presented their own TRTA and training programmes.
This
Open Day provided an opportunity for WTO Members to gain a better knowledge
of the various TRTA programmes that are available to them to enable them to
strengthen their institutional and human capacity so that they can
participate more actively in the multilateral trading system. Members also
expressed their views on how programmes could be improved, and how we could
strengthen our ability to provide more efficient TRTA to our Members.
