Workshop on Enhancing the Participation of Women Entrepreneurs and Traders in Government Procurement

Hosted by the Republic of Moldova
Organized in cooperation with the WTO, ITC and EBRD

At the WTO抯 11th Ministerial Conference, the majority of WTO Members joined the Buenos Aires Declaration on Trade and Women抯 Economic Empowerment. Building on the momentum achieved by this important achievement, signatories are beginning to translate the Declaration into meaningful action.

The Workshop will look at government procurement markets and their importance for inclusive economic development.

Speakers will discuss the links between trade, government procurement and women empowerment. They will also review the role of the Government Procurement Agreement and explore the economic opportunities created by it. 

Best practices and experiences of WTO Members on government procurement will also be presented.

The workshop is co-organised by Republic of Moldova, the International Trade Centre (ITC), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), and the World Trade Organization (WTO).

Background: The Buenos Aires Declaration on Trade and Women’s Economic Empowerment was launched at the WTO’s 11th Ministerial Conference under the leadership of Sierra Leone, Iceland, ITC,  the International Gender Champions’ Trade Impact Group and the WTO. At that time, 118 WTO members and observers signed the Declaration.
