NOTE:
This summary has been prepared by the WTO Secretariat抯 Information and
Media Relations Division to help public understanding about developments
in WTO disputes. It is not a legal interpretation of the issues, and it is
not intended as a complete account of the issues. These can be found in
the reports themselves and in the minutes of the Dispute Settlement
Body抯 meetings.
Summary of the meeting
There were 2 items on the agenda:
1. United States ?Laws,
regulations and methodology for calculating dumping margins ("zeroing") (DS162)
The EC and the US jointly requested (WT/DS294/11) an extension of the time-period for adoption of the panel
report until 31 January 2006. The report was circulated on 31 October 2005 and, according to DSU
procedures, is due to be adopted or appealed by 30 December 2005. Both
delegations explained that due to the heavy year-end demand on delegations
and the Appellate Body, the additional time would provide greater
flexibility in scheduling. The DSB agreed to the joint request.
2. Mexico ?Tax measures on
soft drinks and other beverages (DS308)
At the start of the meeting, the chairman announced that Mexico had
notified its intention to appeal the panel report in this dispute. Hence,
the report was removed from the agenda.
