At its meeting on 5 November 2001 the DSB adopted the report of the Appellate Body on the dispute 揢nited States ?Transitional safeguard measure on combed cotton yarn from Pakistan?and the report of the panel. Pakistan, which had a favorable ruling, said that this was the first individual complaint that Pakistan has brought under the WTO dispute settlement procedures.

United States ?preliminary determination with respect to certain
softwood lumber from Canada
The US said it was not prepared to consent, at this meeting, to the
first request by Canada for the establishment of a panel.
DS189: Argentina ?definitive anti-dumping measures on imports of ceramic floor tiles
from Italy
The DSB adopted the report of the panel. The ruling was favorable to the European Union.
Argentina said it was not happy with the ruling but had decided not to
appeal 搕aking into account that the resources of the system are
limited and must be used in a prudent manner?
In case (DS27/51) the EC submitted a status report on the
Implementation of the Recommendations and Rulings in the dispute
concerning bananas and said that the EC are continuing to work
actively on the legal instruments that are required for the new regime
after 1 January 2002. The EC also welcomed the fact that the
examination procedure for the requested waivers on its partnership
with the ACP countries has started. Some Latin American banana
exporters expressed concern on the implications of this waiver.
The DSB also approved the names of three candidates for the list of
panelists proposed by Argentina.
